Chinese New Year Dragon Puppet

Here’s a Do-it-Yourself Dragon Puppet based on the model on this page. This was done for Matt Petty at the SF Chronicle and will appear in Thursday’s 96 Hours section. Download and print the large version of this guy, mount the head and tail on cardboard, accordion-fold the midsection, attach the midsection to the head and tail, then attach a chopstick to the head and a chopstick to the tail, and march down your street! GUNG HAY FAT CHOY!

Wow, this is a *great* dragon! I’ve been doing similar “dancing dragons” with the 1st through 3rd graders at a local elementary every week this month — we’ve been using lotsa glitter, gold stickers and these crazy flame colored feathers. There is a general consensus among kids: glitter makes everything better.
